SA Feed Phosphates
SA Feed Phosphates was established in 1992 to produce feed phosphates for the local livestock market. The head office is in Douglas and the production plant is centrally situated at Christiana in the North West Province.
The business of SA Feed Phosphates is based on the production and marketing of feed phosphates as an essential and strategic nutrient for all productive animals, which include poultry, pigs, ostriches, as well as dairy, ruminants and aquaculture.
Phosphates are essential in the formation of the skeleton, as well as in the energy metabolism of animals. Phosphate deficiency can result in stunted growth and poor reproduction.
More than 90% of South Africa’s natural resources can be described as semi-arid climate regions. The soil in these regions can be classified as moderately poor to very poor in phosphorous and therefore has a characteristic shortage of phosphate in the grazing. Natural grazing is widely used in the extensive production of livestock. Therefore it is vital that phosphorous in the form of feed phosphates should be supplemented throughout the year, especially during the highly productive summer season.
SA Feed Phosphates produce a variety of feed phosphate products to satisfy the needs in the market. Additional value is added to the product range by the addition of molasses which improves the taste and physical characteristics, as well as trace elements to ensure optimal production of livestock. The product range is extended with the addition of a ruminant licks (dryveld supplements) and feedlot concentrates in the manufacturing and marketing package.
