The company’s comprehensive range of products and services are offered by six divisions:
GWK’s division for Grain Products is a dynamic grain trading and operational business which instills confidence in producers through quality service. Companies within this division include grain procurement, grain grading, grain storage and grain trading. Wheat, maize, soy beans and barley form part of the product range handled by this division.
GWK’s division for Specialist Products division offers producers the opportunity to diversify. Cultivation of these products offer opportunities for crop rotation to increasing crop yields. It also provides the opportunity to utilize new sales opportunities at GWK’s processing plants. The division handles a variety of products, namely oilseeds, cotton, lucerne and livestock feeds, wine, potatoes and pecan nuts. The division also focuses on seed production and processing. Logistics support such as farm collections, storage and negotiation of trading contracts are part of the service rendered by the various businesses in the division.
GWK’s division for Primary Production focuses on product and service inputs for producers. This includes the marketing and sales of own and external suppliers’ input products. Sidi Parani, GWK’s well known South African manufacturer of granular and liquid fertiliser, forms part of this division. Seed production, processing and marketing are also done by the division. Comprehensive insurance solutions and a nationwide logistics service for road and rail transport are also offered. A research and development service for producers with a focus on high technology farming ensures that GWK’s producers constantly informed of the latest technology and realise optimum yields. The development of emerging farmers is a priority to GWK. More than 1 000 emerging producers are the beneficiaries of various projects in which the business is involved. The division is also responsible for GWK’s own agricultural production operations where the company itself is involved in crop production.
GWK’s division for Auctions, Meat and Supermarkets continuously focuses on ways to expand the market of producers. Auctions are held at GWK’s facilities weekly. GWK is involved in livestock, stud and game auctions. Livestock procurement and the facilitation of transactions between producers are also part of the service offered by the business. GWK Meat manages sheep abattoirs and feedlots in Groblershoop and De Aar. The facilities are export approved and supply quality niche market products such as Food Lover’s Market Free Range Karoo Lamb, Fresh by Nature Lamb, Woolworths Free Range and Makro Natural Karoo Lamb exclusively to the respective chain stores. GWK Meat operates the Tri-Star feedlot near Hartswater as a custom-feeding facility. The abattoir is export approved for Africa and the Middle-East. All facilities are independently audited in terms of food security standards and product quality. The division also invests in supermarkets. This offers producers the opportunity to market their products further down in the value chain, thus unlocking new opportunities in the value chain.
GWK’s Trade division consists of much more than buying and selling. We wish to build a long-term relationship with our clients. GWK’s retail branches serve the entire GWK region with a wide range of products for producers, the gardener, the housewife and the public. GWK Mechanisation and Engineering Works is a John Deere dealer, provides a diverse range of tractors and agricultural implements and also operates workshops where all repairs are done.
GWK’s Division for Corporate Services supports all businesses and management structures in the GWK group with specialised services such as financial management, risk management, information technology, legal services, human resource services and corporate marketing. The division ensures that only the best business practices are applied throughout the entire GWK group to benefit GWK’s shareholders, is responsible for the group’s daily business and management administration and is responsible for GWK’s community projects. The division looks after the GWK group’s staff to maintain GWK’s status as an employer of choice in the South African agricultural sector. GWK’s financing business also resorts under this division. This business provides financing solutions to producers in support of GWK’s operations. The company’s services include production loans for the cultivation of products, livestock production loans, buyers accounts, monthly accounts, livestock auction accounts and instalment agreements for the purchase of equipment, vineyard establishment and livestock purchases.
